Biographie

Né le 7 Juin 1972 à Wellington.
Originaire de Nouvelle-Zélande, Karl Urban débute sa carrière d'acteur après le lycée, en 1992, avec des rôles récurrents dans les séries de son pays que sont Shortland Street et Homeward Bound. C'est en 2000, avec le film d'horreur Face aux démons, qu'il obtient son premier rôle d'importance au cinéma. Hollywood commence alors à s'intéresser vivement à cet acteur au visage dur et lui offre un rôle dans le film d'horreur Le Vaisseau de l'angoisse (2002), qui lui permet de donner la réplique à Gabriel Byrne et Julianna Margulies.

En 2002, Karl Urban se révèle au grand public en incarnant Eomer dans Le Seigneur des anneaux : les deux tours, réalisé par son compatriote Peter Jackson. Après avoir repris son rôle dans Le Seigneur des anneaux : le retour du roi, il se spécialise dans des productions particulièrement musclées, incarnant un Nécromanger dans Les Chroniques de Riddick (2004), affrontant Matt Damon dans La Mort dans la peau (id.) ou traquant les mutants en compagnie de The Rock dans Doom (2005), adaptation sur grand écran du célèbre jeu vidéo.

Biographie

Né le 04 avril 1960,
Il est sans doute mieux connu du public américain pour la voix de Rex, le chien de berger de Babe et de Babe : un Cochon dans la Ville.
Pour la télévision australienne, il a joué dans la mini-série à grand succès Bangkok Hilton, avec Nicole Kidman comme partenaire.
Diplômé du National Institue of Dramatic Arts, on a pu voir Hugo Weaving dans des films comme MATRIX, LE VIEUX QUI LISAIT DES ROMANS D'AMOUR, ou encore LA PREUVE. Il a également joué dans de nombreuses pièces de théâtre dont plusieurs avec la Sydney Theater Company.
Son interprétation dans THE INTERVIEW de Craig Monahan lui a valu l'Australian Film Institute Award (AFI) et, à Montréal, le Festival des Films du Monde lui a décerné l'award du meilleur acteur. Il a également obtenu d'AFI pour PRISCILLA, FOLLE DU DESERT et LA PREUVE.
A l'affiche de la trilogie de Peter Jackson LE SEIGNEUR DES ANNEAUX, il y interprète un Elfe, Elrond.

Biographie

Née le 14 Mai 1969 à Melbourne (Australie).
D'abord portée vers les arts et l'économie, Cate Blanchett se destine finalement à des
études de théâtre dont elle ressort diplômée en 1992. Elle commence alors une carrière de comédienne, oscillant entre le théâtre et la télévision et recueillant succès public et critique en Australie. En 1997, le réalisateur Bruce Beresford lui propose son premier rôle important dans la superproduction Paradise road, mais c'est avec Elizabeth, dont elle tient la vedette, que le public international la découvre véritablement. Sa brillante prestation de la reine d'Angleterre lui vaut le Golden Globe de la meilleure actrice ainsi qu'une nomination aux Oscars 1999. Cate Blanchett tourne ensuite la comédie Les Aiguilleurs (2000), l'occasion pour elle de faire la rencontre de Billy Bob Thornton, acteur à qui elle donnera de nouveau la réplique dans Bandits (2002).

De plus en plus présente au cinéma, la comédienne enchaîne les apparitions dans Le Talentueux M. Ripley (2000) et The Man who cried (2001). Sa carrière prend un tournant avec la trilogie du Seigneur des anneaux : sa beauté diaphane et sa douceur lui permettent d'incarner l'elfe Galadriel. Dans un registre différent, elle interprète, aux côtés de Giovanni Ribisi, une diseuse de bonne aventure dans le thriller surnaturel Intuitions de Sam Raimi. Cate Blanchett retrouvera cet acteur pour les besoins du drame sentimental Heaven. Aimant camper des femmes à poigne comme dans le western Les Disparues (2003), elle se voit également confier des rôles de personnages réels comme Veronica Guerin (2002), une journaliste irlandaise enquêtant sur des trafiquants de drogue, et la comédienne Katharine Hepburn dans la fresque Aviator en 2004.

Biographie

Né le 12 Septembre 1931 à Goodmayes en Grande-Bretagne.
Acteur prolifique (près d'une centaine de films en 45 ans de présence sur les écrans) et véritable caméléon, Ian Holm débute sa carrière sur les planches du Shakespeare Memorial Theatre en 1954. Comédien de théâtre confirmé, il effectue ses premiers pas devant la caméra en 1966 dans la série télévisée The Body snatchers. Il passe au cinéma en 1968 avec L'Homme de Kiev de John Frankenheimer, avant de jouer dans Ah dieu que la guerre est jolie de Richard Attenborough. Ian Holm apparaît dans une dizaine de films dans les années 70, dont Les Griffes du lion (1972) de Richard Attenborough, Terreur sur le Britannic (1974) de Richard Lester et Alien, le huitième passager (1979), où il campe Ash, l'angoissant androïde.

Mais c'est en 1981 qu'arrive la consécration. Dans Les Chariots de feu de Hugh Hudson, Ian Holm incarne Sam Mussabini, l'entraîneur de deux coureurs de fond anglais en lice pour les Jeux Olympiques de 1924. Un rôle qui lui vaut le Prix du Meilleur second rôle masculin au Festival de Cannes, le British Academy Award du Meilleur second rôle ainsi qu'une nomination à l'Oscar du Meilleur second rôle masculin. Fidèle à Terry Gilliam (Bandits, bandits et Brazil), il retrouvera Hugh Hudson en 1984 pour Greystoke, la légende de Tarzan. Les rôles marquants et les collaborations avec les plus grands metteurs en scène se succèdent : Henry V (1989) et Frankenstein (1994) de Kenneth Branagh, Kafka (1991) de Steven Soderbergh, Le Festin nu (1991) de David Cronenberg, De beaux lendemains (1997) d'Atom Egoyan ou encore Esther Kahn (2000) d'Arnaud Desplechin.

Anobli par la reine d'Angleterre en juin 1998, Ian Holm balade également son petit gabarit dans bon nombre de grosses productions où il fait souvent figure d'érudit : prêtre agité dans Le Cinquième élément (1997), il est Bilbon Sacquet le Hobbit dans la saga Le Seigneur des anneaux (2001), l'aristocrate Sir William Gull dans From hell (2002) des frères Hughes, un climatologue de renommée mondiale dans Le Jour d'après (2004) ainsi qu'un météorologue s'improvisant mathématicien dans Aviator (2005).

Né à Manchester en Angleterre, Bernard Hill a fait ses débuts à la télévision britannique en 1973 dans le premier film de Mike Leight, HARD LABOUR. Il a ensuite joué dans GANDHI de Richard Attenborough, LE BOUNTY de Roger Donaldson ou THE CRIMINAL de Julian Simpson.
Bernard Hill mène une carrière éclectique des deux côtés de l'Atlantique, jouant dans certains des plus grands films britanniques (AU SOURCES DU NIL) ou américains (TITANIC) ; ainsi que dans un grand nombre de productions théâtrales et télévisées.
En 2001, il a joué dans le ROI SCORPION de Chuck Russel ; ainsi que dans deux volets de la trilogie de Peter Jackson LE SEIGNEUR DES ANNEAUX : LES DEUX TOURS et LE RETOUR DU ROI.
